What it is

Hoʻoponopono is not a technique. In its older form it is a family sitting down together — an elder holding the room, a pule to open it, everything said aloud in turn, and then kala: the untying, so that what was brought in is genuinely set down and not carried back out.

Kāhealani studied it under Aunty Margaret Machado and in the lineage of Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona. She is careful about what it is for. It is not a method for getting an outcome from another person. It is the work of putting a relationship back in order — with the living, with those who came before you, and with yourself.

This is the companion to Quantum Forgiveness rather than a second version of it. Forgiveness is the act of setting down what you are still carrying. Hoʻoponopono is the wider practice around it: the acknowledgement, the asking, the release, and what is owed to the people on either side of you in the line.

It asks nothing of anyone else. They do not have to know, agree, be willing, or still be alive.
